Seeing Ghostly Visitors, With and Without My Eyes

If you are familiar with movies or TV shows about ghosts (I actually watch very few of them), the people in them see the paranormal with their eyes as they do every day objects. I’m a bit envious, as most of my experiences include hearing, sensing or feeling a touch of some kind, but are not truly visual with two exceptions. One of these I wrote about in the post, “Paradise” Valley. However, I have now had several experiences of “seeing” through what I only assume is my third eye.

The first time it happened was a handful of years ago. I had been sleeping and became suddenly conscious, though my eyes remained closed. I could “see” clearly that there was a presence in the room, and it chose to appear dressed in one of my hoodies but didn’t have a face. It was really creepy and scared me to full alertness. It took some time to go back to sleep. Luckily, I had an appointment with an intuitive healer that week and told her about what I had seen. She said that many times, there can energy around that could be formless and to make sense of it, our brain will interpret it with some kind of form. She said it’s not unusual to see an energy without a face in this situation. That explanation didn’t do much to dispel the creepiness of the experience – a faceless thing “wearing” my hoodie sweatshirt. We didn’t actually discuss how I could see this without my eyes being open.

The next time this happened, a couple years later, I had again been sleeping. As before, I became conscious and aware that something was near me, even though my eyes were still closed. Suddenly, I had a very clear image of a young man standing in the center of my bedroom. It looked like either daylight was suddenly streaming in the windows or the lights were on, and I could see every detail of the person. He had dark, slightly shaggy dark hair and had a medium complexion. He was wearing a blue plaid shirt with a t-shirt on beneath it. The plaid shirt was untucked over slim jeans, and he had on high top tennis shoes. His presence was unmistakable. I focused on it for a minute, without fear; I was mostly surprised by the sudden intrusion. I opened up my eyes to see if I could see that way, and I couldn’t. I closed my eyes again and he faded quickly after that. It was really odd and really real. I feel strongly that I was not making up what I was seeing, as I was not dreaming beforehand and wasn’t in a hazy pre-waking state. It was actually a bit exciting, and I couldn’t get back to sleep after that.

This type of vision happened again, just a few months ago. As you may have guessed, I was in bed asleep and became conscious with my eyes closed. This time, the image I saw was at the breakfast bar in our kitchen, with the space fully lit (in reality, it was dark out and no lights were on). A tall slender man was leaning up against a small bar we usually eat at. He had a cowboy hat tipped down over his face, and a was wearing a denim shirt tucked into jeans. He didn’t have a visible face, though. He just hung out a minute or so and then disappeared.

I have no idea who the flannel shirt guy or the guy in the hat are, or why they suddenly appeared to me. They had no message for me and I didn’t get much of a vibe from them. They weren’t frightening, they just suddenly appeared and disappeared. I guess you could say that I was dreaming and just saw these images as part of a dream, but I know that I wasn’t dreaming and could clearly see my room and the kitchen in a way that I’ve never had happen in a dream. I have shared these instances with my sister, who immediately thought of two phenomena – the flannel shirt man and the hat man. I personally don’t think I was visited by anything dark, though my experience could still be related, as these are commonly seen characters. Or maybe it’s possible for an archetype to take form.

I do find it hard to fully take in these three experiences that I’ve shared, since I get stuck on the fact that I had my eyes closed. It is interesting, though, that the pineal gland, does have a role in sensing light. Perhaps it’s possible that the light these visitors seemed to create was enough to alert my brain to their presence and I could then somehow “see” them, or at least my brain quickly constructed an image to make sense of the experience. I won’t really know, but these incidents certainly felt very real.
